Windows 7 Is “Okay”

Windows 7

Unfortunately for me, I own a Windows Mobile phone which basically requires me to tote around some version of Microsoft Windows. Sure I can install software and sync with Mac via third party programs but when it comes to updating the phone itself, it’s gotta be genuine Redmond. I recently deleted my Windows Vista partition and installed the latest and greatest replacement to that virus called Vista: Windows 7.

Windows 7 runs a lot faster than Vista, but I still don’t think quite as fast as XP did. The installation process was quick and I’m getting used to the new task bar which reminds me a lot of KDE. Even though benchmarks don’t show a huge increase in speed from Vista on the same hardware, it *feels* faster.

I had a lot of problems with getting it to dual boot along side Mac OS X. Vista didn’t give me these issues, although I’m sure there’s a workaround to my problems, I’m now moving Windows 7 to a virtual machine (VMWare Fusion) because I’m tired of dealing with boot issues and don’t want to continue to use Vista to fix my phone (I like the new stuff when it comes to craptastic Microsoft).

Video game support has been given a bump in speed thanks to Windows 7 and one of the first things I noticed was an increase in frame rate and graphics verses Vista on the same hardware. Too bad for me I can’t get it to dual boot properly so it’s going on a slower virtual partition. I’m sure this will “save” Microsoft so to speak if they do it right. They’re in the right direction but they were with Vista too and look at what happened.

Still a Mac user…
